AAMC Professional Development Seminars
Thirty-eight VCU SOM faculty members (37 women, 1 man) have attended AAMC professional development seminars, 1995-2005. Thirty (79%) received funding from the Office of Faculty and Instructional Development, School of Medicine (SOM). Early Carreer Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar
This seminar is for women early in their first faculty appointment who are aiming for a position of leadership in academic medicine (associate professors are not eligible). It is targeted primarily at physicians but is also pertinent for Ph.D. scientists. The number of participants is limited to 120 to keep workshops small. Each applicant should submit a supporting letter from her dean, section or department head describing how her goals for attending the seminar relate to her work and professional aspirations.

Mid-Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar
This seminar is designed for M.D. and Ph.D. women medical faculty at the associate professor rank. Applications from assistant professors with exceptional leadership positions will also be considered. With the application form, applicants must submit a supporting letter from their Dean, Section or Department Head describing how her goals for attending the seminar relate to her work and professional aspirations. In order to keep workshops small, seminar enrollment will not exceed 130. This seminar offers CME credit.

This program is designed for junior faculty (senior fellows, instructors, and assistant professors) who are members of underrepresented minority groups and who aspire to positions of leadership in academic medicine. Enrollment is limited to 60 participants.
