The Vietnam War, a highly anticipated documentary from Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, will air this fall on PBS. In the film, the Class of 1966’s Hal Kushner speaks publicly for the first time about his experiences as a POW.

In the emerging field of face transplant, the Class of 1999’s Eduardo D. Rodriguez is considered one of the world’s pioneering surgeons in the field. He returned to the MCV Campus last summer as the speaker for the 2016 S. Dawson Theogaraj Lecture and described his team’s work to complete the most extensive face transplant ever in August 2015.

In January, Jerry F. Strauss III, M.D., Ph.D., stepped down from his position as dean to devote himself fully to his funded research program. The spring issue of 12th & Marshall takes a look at the accomplishments from his tenure as the medical school’s longest serving dean in the modern era.

The luck of the Match – and the luck of the Irish – was with the Class of 2017 this St. Patrick’s Day. March 17 pulled double duty as Match Day, an annual rite of passage when fourth-year medical students around the country learn their residency training destinations.

Through Your Eyes Megan Lemay-crop Through Your Eyes

In the third grade, the Class of 2011’s Megan Shandelson Lemay won her first writing contest, and she’s been hooked ever since. Though she usually writes prose, her poem that appears in the spring issue of 12th & Marshall is the result of a writing workshop at the end of her residency that prompted her with the word ‘redemption.’
