Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers
in Women’s Health (BIRCWH)
Program Benefits
Benefit to Scholars
Scholars accepted into the BIRCWH program must be guaranteed that 75 percent of their time will be protected for research. This will help ensure that junior investigators have sufficient time to develop their research initiatives and establish themselves as researchers in women’s health.
Scholars will work closely with established investigators and under the direction of a primary mentor. This will provide multiple role models for scholars to enhance their career development. The awards will be reviewed and renewed annually based upon performance and progress in research activities.
Benefit to Departments
Departments that have junior faculty accepted as BIRCWH Scholars will have the opportunity to enhance their departmental research programs, as well as the careers of their faculty. Partial salary support and fringe benefits are provided to ensure protection of 75 percent of the Scholar’s time for research. Scholars are rotated off of the program when they receive federal funding in a relevant area of women’s health research.
