A major
goal of the Office of Faculty and Instructional Development is
to identify and implement useful distance education technology
in support of the education mission of VCU’s School of Medicine.
OFID’s Distance Education and Video Applications unit achieves
that goal by providing videoconferencing services and video and
multimedia production that are used for curriculum, research and
administrative support.
The School of Medicine began using videoconferencing as a distance
education tool in 1995 when two major telemedicine initiatives for
medical education and patient care were launched. The valuable lessons
learned from these projects are part of the foundation for planning
as VCU begins implementing a partnership with the Inova Hospital
System to create the VCU School of Medicine, Inova Campus, in Fairfax,
VA.
