What Should a Student do if the Above Rights and Responsibilities are Violated?

  • First, consult the VCU Resource Guide or the listed reference for specific instructions about how to address the issue informally or formally. Also, refer to the guide or listed reference for the protocol for investigating and resolving an informal or formal complaint, and possible consequences.
  • Contact the School of Medicine Dean of Student Affairs, Dean of Student Affairs for the Medical Campus or any School of Medicine administrator or member of the faculty for guidance. Many of these problems may also be addressed as a professionalism issue. (Please refer to the SOM Professionalism Web site.)
  • Resolutions and institutional change are more likely to occur if a student is willing to file an informal or formal complaint. However, if a student feels more comfortable, he/she may call the confidential mistreatment hotline number:

    MCV Campus: 804-827-TALK (8255)
    Inova Campus: 703-776-TALK (8255).
