Welcome to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine’s M.D./Ph.D. Program website!
The mission of VCU’s M.D./Ph.D. Program is to train tomorrow’s leaders of academic medicine. We believe that medicine will not advance unless basic science discovery can be translated into improved patient outcomes. The best translators will be those well versed in the language and practice of both basic science and clinical medicine: physician scientists. The most accomplished physician scientists will be those with the combined M.D. and Ph.D. degree. The goal of our combined degree program is to continuously blend training during both degree phases, making M.D./Ph.D. training greater than the sum of its parts.
