Fred E. Mecklenburg, M.D., A.B.O.G., F.A.C.O.G. is responsible for the day to day activities of the Inova Fairfax Women’s Center Medical staff, the OB/GYN continuing medical education and grand rounds programs, and for the medical school clerkship teaching, OB/GYN residency and fellowship programs. He directs the Women’s Center Hospitalist program and OB/GYN Patient Safety program. 

He is also responsible for the OB/GYN Clinic, serving a large uninsured medically indigent population living in Fairfax County, VA.  He has participated in numerous pelvic surgery mission trips to Central America with Health Talents International, and has mentored VCU and GW medical students who have accompanied him on these trips.

As a member of numerous hospital committees, he is actively involved in the Virginia OB/GYN Society, the Virginia A.C.O.G. section and several Virginia State health Department task forces and committees.

Dr. Mecklenburg's pre-med and medical education were at the University of Minnesota.  He interned at the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in Seattle, WA. and his OB/GYN residency at the University of Minnesota affiliated Hospitals was interrupted by a 2 year term of service in the US Army Medical Corps.

Prior to accepting the position of Chairman of OB/GYN at Inova Fairfax Hospital, he had practiced and taught OB/GYN for 15 years at a large multi-specialty clinic in suburban Minneapolis, and an additional 13 years with Kaiser-Permanente in suburban Washington D.C.
