Craig Cheifetz, M.D., F.A.C.P., is currently the Assistant Dean for the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine Inova Campus and the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education for the Inova Health System. Prior to Dr. Cheifetz’ current clinical role as the Medical Director of the Inova Institute for Individualized Medicine, Dr. Cheifetz served as an academic hospitalist at Inova Fairfax Hospital for seven years.

Dr. Cheifetz graduated medical school from the State University of New York at Buffalo and completed his residency and chief residency at Georgetown School of Medicine. His primary interest is as a clinical educator having completed both the Stanford Faculty Development Facilitator’s Program in Clinical Teaching and the Harvard-Macy Program for Leaders in Medical Education. He has been the recipient of two golden apple teaching awards and in 2005 was named as the Young Internist of the Year for the state of Virginia by the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Cheifetz has been instrumental in both the development and continued success of the Virginia Commonwealth University Inova Campus, as well as, the affiliate medical student education programs. Dr. Cheifetz has trained over 130 academic and community physician educators in how to become better clinical educators. He has lectured at the national, regional, and local levels in the area of clinical education.

In November 2010, Dr. Cheifetz was selected as the Chair-Elect for the Association of American Medical College's (AAMC’s) Group on Regional Medical Campuses (GRMC).  The GRMC is the national group of the AAMC that represents regional medical campuses throughout the United States and Canada.  The selection of Dr. Cheifetz to lead this group was based on his outstanding accomplishments with the development of the VCU School of Medicine Inova Campus.  Dr. Cheifetz also serves as the Principle Investigator on the National Regional Medical Campus match data project.
