The seventh annual White Coat Ceremony was an important part of orientation activities.

One-by-one, as Dr. Cynthia Heldberg called their names, students went forward to be cloaked. Drs. David Gardner, Michelle Whitehurst-Cook, H.H. Newsome Jr., Walter Lawrence and Hugo Seibel helped the students into their coats. Dr. Michelle Whitehurst-Cook, chair of the Admissions Committee, helps a first-year student with his coat. Dr. H.H. Newsome Jr., Dean of Medicine, helps Kulsoom Razvi with her white coat.

Dr. David Gardner, professor of endocrinology and metabolism in the medical school, presented the White Coat Ceremony’s keynote address to the first-year class. The M2006 students gathered around the statue of Hippocrates for their first class photo. After the White Coat Ceremony, students, family and friends celebrated in the courtyard between the Egyptian Building and the Medical Sciences Buildings.
