- PRIME (Project on Research in Medical Education)
This group was started in January of 1998 to provide interested faculty, representing different components of the medical school, with an ongoing forum for the exchange of information on research in medical education. Seven times a year we:- highlight a current medical education research project being conducted at VCU
- examine medical education resources, organization, techniques, or outcomes
- provide opportunities for the supportive critique of research ideas, the sharing of information about resources, and evaluation of the implications of research findings for the School
- Basic Teaching Skills
The workshop is presented annually in December. Master teachers from the School of Medicine offer instruction on the skills faculty need to be a good teacher, whether giving a lecture, supervising students in a laboratory, or teaching on the wards. All faculty are welcome to attend. For questions, please contact Kathy Kreutzer (828-9789). - Workshops on Teaching and Learning
These series of workshops are designed to help provide medical school faculty, especially course and clerkship directors, with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes for effective teaching and learning. In FY 2008 the focus is on educational scholarship. All faculty and interested persons are welcome to attend. - Evidence Based Medicine
Evidence-based medicine requires new skills of the clinician, including efficient literature-searching and the application of formal rules of evidence in evaluating the clinical literature. Workshops, small group teaching or tutorials are offered to SOM faculty and housestaff who wish to gain knowledge of critical appraisal for the practice of evidence-based medicine.
To arrange faculty development programs, contact Brenda Seago, M.L.S, M.A., Director, CBIL, 828-3914, or Elizabeth Marlowe, M.Ed., Educational Coordinator, CBIL, 828-8319.
Similar courses with graded assignments are provided by CBIL faculty for our medical students in collaboration with SOM faculty and staff from Tompkins-McCaw Library.
