| The main objective of the MD/MPH
Program is to provide high quality and in-depth training for
motivated medical students wishing to pursue a career in public
health. The program consists of four years of medical school
(M-I, M-II, M-III and M-IV) and one year of study in the MPH
Program between the M-III and M-IV years. The final year of
the MD/MPH Program is the clinical M-IV year in preparation
for medical residency. The expected time for completing the
MD/MPH Program is five years.
Since enrollment into the MD/MPH program requires admission
into both the School of Medicine and the Graduate School,
each applicant must submit an application to and be formally
admitted into the Master of Public Health Program prior to
matriculation to the program, due by January 31 of the M-III
year. Students must successfully complete all required course-work
in the MPH Program to be awarded the MPH degree, and to be
readmitted to the M-IV year of medical training.
As students prepare to enter their M-IV year after completing
the MPH Program requirements, the MCV Transition Committee
helps familiarize students with the clinical setting during
a two-week clinical orientation prior to beginning their clinical
clerkship responsibilities. During their final clinical year,
faculty advisors of the Department of Preventive Medicine
and Community Health, and the Dean’s office will assist
MD/MPH students in their application for residency training
in their area of interest.
