EMAIL MENTORING
Project ACEe
participants are paired with medical student members of the Student National
Medical Association (SNMA). SNMA was established in 1964 and is the oldest and
largest independent student organization dedicated to needs and concerns of
minority medical students. One the national missions of SNMA
is to assist and encourage minority youth interested in pursuing a
career in medicine. This mission is practiced by the VCU/MCV SNMA chapter by
working closely with the School of Medicine Admissions and Health Careers
Opportunity Program offices and by serving as email mentors to the Project ACEe participants.
The purpose of the Email Mentoring Program
is to address the questions and concerns of students interested in a career in
medicine. It provides the students an opportunity to ask questions that current
students can answer regarding anything from undergraduate schools to life in
medical school. Some of the past interests of the participants include
completing college applications, deciding what college to attend,
extracurricular activities, working while in school, selecting a major. The
Email Mentoring program provides a forum for the participants to connect with
students who are currently in medical school with first hand knowledge of
undergraduate institutions and current information regarding the medical school
experience.
